Nothing—not even murder—keeps Pauline Sokol off the case. Pauline Sokol, ex-RN turned medical insurance fraud investigator, finds herself embroiled in a scam at a weight loss clinic in the scenic New Mexico desert.
As if being undercover isn’t bad enough, she’s not allowed to eat chocolate, she lives in a body suit that weighs a ton, and her roommate turns out to be a mysteriously hot guy! Nearly finished with what seems to be an open-and-shut case, Pauline befriends a woman who is an undercover reporter, also interested in the goings-on at the weight loss clinic.
Pauline is grateful for the help—until that help turns up dead. Pauline knows the clock is ticking—and it’s not just counting down how long until she can get a candy bar. Back to square one and the probable need to turn to her handsome, but incorrigible, co-worker, Jagger.
Pauline must rely on her nursing skills as well as her ever-increasing skills as an investigator—despite her wish not to be one. I’m not very good at writing bad reviews (sorry), I tend to read a book and if I don’t enjoy it I don’t even do a review. However, someone once told me that giving any type of review is good because its all to do with giving your opinion. (Not only that I once had a bad review and it didn’t deter me from writing another book and improving on it!)
When I first started to read this book, I thought ‘great a bit of comedy’ but as the book went on it turned out to be a bit of everything. But I was actually finding myself getting annoyed because it was advertising that being overweight is a restriction. I’m overweight myself I don’t feel restricted at all and can quite easily run in heels! I don’t know how big the ‘fat suit’ was that Pauline wore, but I’d pictured that she looked like a sumo wrestler of some description.
I think the story could’ve been a bit longer, I felt like I’d started reading half way through. I didn’t really feel like I knew Pauline and what she was really like apart from being a fraud investigator.
I just hope my opinion hasn’t upset anyone, but I will download another one of Lori’s books so that I can see what the other book is like.
